Enlightenment is not a destination. It should be a verb, a doing word, a type of existence we consistently aim to wake up to, in every moment with every movement, thought and decision. It is the practice of striving to get closer to effortless competence in many aspects from love and kindness, ethics, health, balance, love, knowledge, creativity and most importantly, practicing these skills in a way which is fundamentally meaningful to you. It is the quest of changing the narratives of your beliefs and values which do not serve this purpose - from childhood, prior experiences, your immediate surroundings, drama, damaging relationships; any patterns which drive you away from what you wish to be priority, this life you are responsible for, your enlightenment and how you want to identify your connection with the cosmos. It is a surrender, the ultimate letting go. It can take decades to perfect, to achieve a consistent sense of true enlightenment.
To support you, there are illimitable alternative practice examples and opportunities to choose from, such as different types of yoga, Reiki, meditation, hypnosis, religion, reflexology, forest bathing, tai chi, art etc and teachers in these fields can be helpful, (but be mindful of those who are not genuine and show no integrity). It is your life and you must seek out what and who can serve you best on your journey, until you get to a place where you have taken flight and then able support others on their journey. Reiki daily meditations and treatments light my path and I have other pursuits, for example I am vegan, I create things and I walk. I paint and use mandalas to meditate with and for me what really cuts through the layers to achieve states of transcendence is playing my didgeridoo for periods of time with circular breathing.
I was asked by a client what makes an enlightened person and so I explored this:
It can take a lot of energy, especially when helping others along their path and part of the journey is about self care - nurture your inner peace and your outer world will take care of itself.
In a nutshell, if your path to enlightenment is paved with desire for self-growth, willingness to go inside for answers and you want to become enlightened for the benefit of the furture of humankind, commitment to this will bring you gifts in time.
